A leading retailer in do-it-yourself (DIY) products, operating in both B2B and B2C in the Caribbean islands, was in need of a review of its strategy. This proud family business, led by the second generation, had had its strategy drafted by Gwynt 2.5 years ago. Now it was time for a review to set its course for the next 2.5 years. The leadership team, consisting of more than 40 executives spread across multiple islands, needed to be closely involved in these strategic changes.

Approach

To achieve an in-depth review of the current strategy, we conducted interviews with the Management Team and the supervisory board. This enabled us to make a clear evaluation of the progress and realization of the current strategy. In addition, we organized workshops with the Management Team and the supervisory board, in which together we determined the areas for improvement for the coming period. A crucial part of the process was organizing a two-day session for the entire leadership team, where everyone was included in the strategic changes and the focus was placed on further implementation.

Results

This approach resulted in a detailed analysis of the strategy to date, including clear areas for improvement for the next 2.5 years. A strong sense of urgency was created among the Management Team, focusing on performance improvement, simplifying strategic building blocks and creating project focus. In addition, a significant mindset shift was achieved within the leadership team, leading to a greater emphasis on performance management and ownership within the organization. As a result, the retailer is in a stronger position to meet the challenges of the future.
