A non-food retailer with a large number of stores in the Netherlands and Belgium and an online revenue share of over thirty percent was facing ambitious growth targets. Under private equity ownership, the focus was on revenue and profitability growth, supported by expansion plans at home and abroad. However, the organization lacked clear processes and knowledge around formula and category management.
Gwynt guided the management team and second echelon with focused training on the basics of formula and category management. Together with the team, category roles were established for the assortment and templates were developed for data-driven strategic category plans. In addition, we provided on-the-job coaching on writing category plans and making category choices. Job profiles were also developed for key roles within formula, category management and purchasing.
The result is that formula and category management are embedded in the organization as new disciplines. Roles and responsibilities for formula, category management, purchasing and marketing are clearly defined and templates are available for drawing up category plans. This has laid a solid foundation for further growth and professionalization of the organization.
