An international client faced an important strategic decision: the investment in a new ammonia plant. To properly inform this decision, Gwynt conducted an extensive simulation study. The goal was to understand the optimal tank size and jetty utilization under a variety of conditions.
The study produced a science-based comparison of five main scenarios, supplemented by several subscenarios. This looked not only at capacity requirements, but also at the impact on production losses, vessel waiting times and jetty utilization. The impact of variations in vessel size was also examined, as this has a direct effect on investment and operational efficiency.
These simulations provide the client with a clear and reliable understanding of the required assets and investments. This forms a solid basis for making strategic decisions and minimizing risks in a project of this magnitude.
